The overall Secretary of the opposition Nationwide Democratic Congress(NDC) Mr. Manley Asiedu Nketia has exposed that the 1992 Constitution from the Republic of Ghana has been instituted to prevent people through toppling the government of their party at the time. Speaking to Nana Kwadwo Jantuah on Nhyira FM in an interview supervised by MyNewsGH. com, Manley Asiedu Nketia said, “we needed democratic stability the fact that Rawlings coup must be the final coup and that there should be no longer Coup D’etats in our method. For that sake, there were the euphoric pleasures we instituted in the brand new constitution which wasn’t within the existing one at the time”. According to him, the purpose of the new constitution is that, “should we succeed in choosing a democratic government, this must last to prevent an additional coup”. Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia further noted the country has indeed attained what it wanted. The 1992 Constitution of Ghana had been approved on 28th Apr 1992 through a national referendum after 92% support developing the current Fourth Republic. Previous President Jerry John Rawlings came to power in Ghana as a Flight Lieutenant from the Ghana Air Force carrying out a Coup D’etat in 1979. Within 1992, Rawlings resigned in the military, founded the NDC and became the first Leader of the Fourth Republic that has lasted for more than 2 decades.
