Professional Director of education plan think tank Africa Schooling Watch Kofi Asare offers revealed that the conversion associated with three-year programmes to four-year programmes in Ghana’s schools of education (CoEs) offers put a strain on the facilities of the colleges, resulting in a few students being on vacation for approximately 6months unaware when they may return. The inability of the Govt to expand its facilities to match the intake as well as the longer duration has place pressure on the already restricted ones available. “Colleges associated with Education CoEs) are now operating double and triple monitor, the reason some students were on vacation for about 6 months not knowing when they are returning to college. Even though COE’s were created to run 3-Year programmes, the extra infrastructure required to start the particular 4-Year Degree Programme within 2019 is still not available these days, affecting teaching, ” Mister Asare lamented. Mr Asare then slammed the Government just for failing to plan even while it is using funds that were earmarked for expanding schooling infrastructure to pay the debt. “We are obviously not carrying out even 20th-century education preparing, not to talk of 21st century. Our own colleges have become a living room of abandoned projects because of the depleted, securitized and assigned GETFund, as some teacher students remain on perpetual vacation, ” he pointed out. In 2019, the Ministry of Education and learning introduced a four-year program system in all the Colleges associated with Education ( CoEs) consistent with plans to make first level the minimum requirement for training at any level in the country.
