WACWISA -UDS Participates in Advancement Solar Powered Irrigation Program Curriculum

The team from the West Africa Centre for Water, Water sources and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) of the University for Growth Studies (UDS), Tamale can be participating in a Curriculum Evaluation Workshop in Ho included in curriculum development for Sun Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) in Ghana. This is underneath the German Development Cooperation; Krauts (umgangssprachlich) Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Green People’s Power Project which aims at maximizing the use of solar energy in the water sources of agricultural crops throughout Ghana. The four-day class which started on 24th January 2022 has additional stakeholders drawn from other study and training institutions as well as the private sector with the try to enhance collaboration and assistance. The ongoing workshop is really a continuation of the curriculum growth workshop which commenced this past year in Accra. Under the contract, WACWISA-UDS will undertake coaching of sector players within the five (5) northern parts of Ghana, namely; Northern, Northern East, Savanna, Upper Eastern and Upper West. The introduction of the curriculum forms a part of activities under components of the particular project signed as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in between WACWISA-UDS and GIZ-Green People’s Energy Project which is getting implemented as a one-year task. The curriculum focuses on advancement both theory and hands-on aspects of Solar Powered Water sources Systems. The West Africa Centre for Water, Water sources and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) was established in 2019 by the University for Growth Studies (UDS) as a semi-autonomous Centre of Excellence to attempt cutting-edge research and learning irrigation, drainage, water assets management, sustainable agriculture, weather change and food and nourishment security. Currently has a hundred and thirty-eight (138) college students at the Masters and Physician of Philosophy (PhD) ranges studying Irrigation and Draining Engineering and Environmental Administration and Sustainability from 25 (25) countries. With a tagline “Building Capacities for Environmentally friendly Solutions”, WACWISA builds capabilities of trainees and graduate student students through short programs, Masters, PhD and post-doctoral level programmes, as well as performs applied and advanced analysis and develops sustainable local technologies in water assets, irrigation, climate change, lasting agriculture and food and nourishment. GIZ Green Energy People’s Project is also sponsoring the particular establishment of a Solar Driven Irrigation System demonstration web site for training and study purposes at WACWISA, Nyankpala campus of UDS.
