Person in Parliament(MP) for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, Ashanti Region Dr Stephen Amoah has debunked statements that most Ghanaians are towards Government’s move to implement the particular electronic transactions levy (E-Levy), stressing that there is no suitable research that points towards the claim that Ghanaians are not willing to pay the E-Levy.
Talking Saturday, January 29, 2022, on Multimedia’s Newsfile, Doctor Amoah conceded that despite the fact that citizens are usually averse towards the payment of taxes, the idea that Ghanaians are generally contrary to the E-Levy is false.
“In any case, there is nowhere fast in the world that any individual is certainly interested in paying taxes that will have an impact on the person’s convenience income. So people who are saying “Ghanaians are not happy”, given that when Ghanaians have shown therefore happy with it. And that has done practically acceptable analysis with sample sizes as well as other things to show that we may extrapolate and say that more than 15 million Ghanaians from over 31 million, state they don’t want it? And also the fact that some Ghanaians state they don’t want it does not mean they are right or even wrong…” He explained.
Doctor Amoah also gave explanations why the E-Levy ought to be compensated. Among others, he noted that this strain brought upon the particular economy by the COVID-19 outbreak and the need to provide interpersonal amenities are compelling aspects for which Ghanaians must accept to pay the levy.
Intended for him, Ghanaians must say yes to pay the levy then ensure that they hold the Authorities accountable on how the money will be expended.
The Financial had earlier explained that will without the E-Levy, the country would need to seek an International Monetary Account (IMF) programme to be able to connect revenue loopholes in the 2022 Budget. Meanwhile, the group in Parliament has managed that it will not support the particular passage of the E-Levy expenses into law.
