There is no ‘kululu’ in Grammy nominations – Rocky Dawuni on connections to be selected

Ghanaian international Reggae artiste Rugged Dawuni says his candidate selection at the 64th Grammy Honours has not been influenced whatsoever which what transpired into the choice by the award scheme to choose him is based on the criteria with the board. “You can’t have got influence in a scheme like this. This is not back door things. This is an international body. And so i don’t have that power, artistes don’t have that power more than an international body which have a lot of members who are voting and also you don’t know the members. How is your day going to be able to influence the particular members”? Rocky Dawuni stated this on TV 3 whenever asked if it was feasible for anyone to have an influence on the nomination unto the prize scheme. Back home in Ghana, some entertainment analysts possess criticized most award strategies in the country citing issues associated with bias and favouritism. Yet setting the record directly on his nomination, Rocky Dawuni insisted that, Grammy Honor “is not like other different types of an award which you can return door … where you possess friends and stuff”. Based on him, it is even harmful for artistes to use some other means other than the genuine ones to win honours for themselves. Rocky Dawuni is in contention for the Best Worldwide Music Album award on the 64th Grammy Awards together with his “Voice of BunBon”, Vol. 1 album. He face opposition from Daniel Ho & Friends, Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, and Wizkid. This is the second time Rugged Dawuni has been nominated towards the Grammy Awards.
