Professional Director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) Prof Henry Kwasi Prempeh has explained that the Authorities is doing all it can to prevent a programme with the Worldwide Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to be able to spend without self-discipline. Prof Prempeh’s comment arrives at a time Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s revelation which the Government’s resolve to put into action the electronic transactions garnishment (E-Levy) is to enable federal government raise enough money in order that it will avoid going to the IMF for budgetary support. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah had stated that about a billion dollars is going to be generated from the E-Levy which is sufficient to keep the Government through seeking support from the IMF. But Prof Prempeh provides argued that the Government’s confirmed effort to avoid the IMF is to enable it invest in an undisciplined manner. “The only reason the Government of Ghana wants to prevent the IMF is to avoid investing discipline. They want to be liberated to spend and do as they make sure you, ” wrote in a reaction to the news. The Government has suggested in its 2022 Budget in order to implement the E-Levy therefore has to raise much-needed income for its expenditure for the 12 months.
