Mouthpiece Chief Executive officer(CEO) of the Nationwide Youth Authority(NYA)has questioned the particular Ghana Police Service from the rationale behind stripping individuals half-naked and displaying all of them on television after their criminal arrest. This week, the Ghana Law enforcement Service arrested 26 Nigerians who are suspected to be involved with various cyber crimes. On their arrest, the Police recovered phones, Laptops and some ingredients suspected to be Indian hemp. These suspects were shown on National Television whiles the Central Regional Law enforcement Commander addressed the mass media about their arrest. Responding to the videos, Akosua Manu who is an advocate for your youth could not fathom the real reason for stripping the young men ahead of the cameras and stripping all of them of the little dignity still left of them. To her, it’s essential that the Police finds a remedy to this which has been the purchase of the day when people are imprisoned. Her post she contributed on Facebook read “I saw a news product yesterday where the Police got arrested several suspected criminals in Kasoa. The television place cameras captured the teenage boys who were stripped down to their own threadbare boxers. What I discovered most bizarre is this have to strip these men right down to their bare bottoms actually. A quick google search on the police arrest of persons by the Law enforcement will show that this is not really a recent phenomenon. What is the explanation? That should they escape, it will probably be easy to find a half-naked guy in the streets? Is no thought made for them to keep their particular trousers on? Why this particular conscious effort to remove people of their dignity even while suspects and not convicts? Are these claims legal? I find the entire process irritating, especially if the court adjudges some of the potential foods in the video to be blameless or discharged because the criminal prosecution did not start or there exists a lack of evidence. Will they will be granted the same viewers to have their say? Law enforcement work is excruciatingly tough, and I commend the Police for his or her commitment to fighting criminal offense. However , the Police must ensure they find a balance between improving the dignity of all individuals and their duty in order to arrest, investigate and prosecute crimes. If an arrested person is innocent till proven guilty, it drops on the police to regard the dignity of all charged or suspected persons throughout their arrest, detention and criminal prosecution bearing in mind that all are blameless until proven guilty with a court of competent legislation. Until then, any type of cruel, degrading, or inhumane treatment should not be countenanced”. Resource: MyNewsGh. com/ 2021
