“God told me” is not the defence if your prophecy leads to fear and panic – Ace Ankomah to prophets

Personal Legal Practitioner Ace Ankomah has warned that prophets whose prophecies are likely to result in or actually cause dread and panic(alarm) could be jailed, stressing that the prophets are not able to defend themselves by saying God told them or even revealed the information to them. Talking Saturday, October 30, 2021 on Multimedia’s Newsfile program, Mr Ankomah explained that will section 208(1) of the Unlawful Code criminalises the distribution of false statements, whispers, or reports that are prone to cause fear and security alarm to the public or bother the public peace when the individual involved knows or got reason to know the the actual published is false. This individual noted that “false” involves whether or not the person took acceptable steps to verify the precision of what they published. “…That you say this individual is going to die. Death is just not good news…And so if you accomplish that, then the law will state: “well, how were a person able to verify the veracity or accuracy of it. At this point in court, it states you must prove. “Prove” by Evidence Act means account, writings, material objects, or even other things presented to the feelings that are offered to prove the particular existence or non-existence of the fact. And so if it can not be seen, heard, smelt, felt or touched it is not proof unless it is opinion proof, ” he said. Mister Ankomah then advised prophets to be tactful with the way they handle prophecies so that they do not fall foul of the legislation. “And so with due regard, prophets, ‘Nyame ne yi kyere me; m3 tu day3 – God informed me -is not evidence within Court. So receive the information but how you deal with this, how you handle it [ will determine whether or not you’ve will breach the law]” he stated. Recently, the police arrested the prophet who had prophesied that Dancehall singer Shatta Wale was going to die. Right after being remanded into law enforcement custody, he was ultimately bailed and he is currently dealing with prosecution.
