The anti-LGBTQI+ Bill which is currently before parliament of Ghana for consideration, when passed into law will not meet a constitutional test moving forward. Director Legal of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Dr . Poku Adusei described the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill as a proposed law that breaches a few provisions in the 1992 Constitution“When you get a law in which adverbs and other descriptive words are used to qualify nouns and verbs, it lets you know there is something wrong. So the usage of the word ‘proper’ in the name of the law alone should tell you that there is something wrong”, he noted on Joy FM Newsfile monitored by MyNewsGh. com. That he explained that portions of the Anti-LGBTQ Bill will seek to penalize Ghanaians who frown upon maltreatment against LGBTQ persons by some members of the general public, prescribe what is proper in terms of one’s sexual activities. “If you look at the tenure of the bill, you don’t need anyone to tell you that it won’t meet a constitutional test going forward”, Dr . Adusei told host, Samson Lardy Anyenini throughout a panel discussion. According to him, pointing out the flaws in the Anti-LGBTQ Bill is not the same as encouraging individuals to engage in homosexuality. “We should not lose sight that the group with Akoto Ampaw and Professor Takyiwaa Manu and the rest who’re advocating against the bill have been in no way saying that they are supporters of lesbianism and gayism. That is one thing Ghanaians must understand” Dr . Poku Adusie stated. Source: MyNewsGh. com/2021
