Sekyere Kumawu: How 13 set up members were prevented through voting in DCE verification

It is emerging that Thirteen(13) Assembly Members at Sekyere Kumawu in the Ashanti Region were prevented from voting in District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee Samuel Addai Agyekum’s confirmation on Friday, October 15, 2021. President Akuff-Addo’s DCE nominee for Sekyere Kumawu Assembly in the Ashanti Region Samuel Addai Agyekum has been rejected twice by the assembly members. On Thursday, October 14, 2021, some assembly members and youth invoked curses on the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah and Chairman Wontumi for imposing Samuel Addai Agyekum on them. But in the drama that followed on Friday, only government appointees at the assembly were allowed to access the voting premises at Bemeng Methodist Church. Some assembly members expressing their grievances in an interview with Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo revealed that “we were denied access to enter the voting premises to vote because the leadership of the party in the region and constituency suspect we were those who voted NO to reject the DCE nominee”. According to them “We went to where the voting was ongoing and some police officers told us we cannot enter”. They added, “Even the MP for Kumawu Constituency Hon Philip Basoah was also prevented from entering the voting premises”. “They(government appointees” have every right to vote and endorse Samuel Addai Agyekum as DCE for Sekyere Kumawu but we are all in the assembly”. They disclosed. Source: MyNewsGh. com/2021
