A top member of the opposition Nationwide Democratic Congress (NDC) within the Ashanti Region, Mr. Gabriel Asiedu has proposed that will only spiritual punishment that may stop the people from interesting the illegal mining actions popularly known as galamsey within Ghana.
According to him, till the chiefs who are custodians from the lands and water body adopt that spiritual proceed, nothing can prevent the individuals from engaging themselves directly into galamsey.
“The rivers plus water bodies in our neighborhoods are spirits which can reprimand people and even kill. When the chiefs who are custodians from the lands and these water body call these deities, everybody will quit galamsey”, he or she spoke on Kumasi-based Otec FM monitored by MyNewsGh. com.
Delivering a keynote address at the first Local Consultative Dialogue on Little Scale Mining in Kumasi last week, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II informed chiefs, elders and political figures against participating in galamsey plus would not hesitate to sanction any traditional ruler that will engage in the act.
Talking with the issues emanating from conversation, Mr. Gabriel Asiedu informed host, that known plus unknown chiefs are using the particular Monarch’s name to do galamsey.
“Some emboss Otumfuo’s label on excavators and personal vehicles going around to take funds at galamsey sites. Whenever we really want to stop the people through galamsey, the Chiefs need to call deities for themselves”, Mr. Gabriel Asiedu stated.
Meanwhile, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II offers threatened to sanction any kind of traditional ruler under their jurisdiction who be found appealing himself in galamsey
“On my part, I have currently warned my Chiefs plus elders against participation such illegalities, and I will not think twice to strongly sanction such infraction. ”, the Asantehene vowed.
