The French national believed to be the mercenary disguised as an undercover journalist was arrested within the Central African Republic upon Monday with a large amount of weaponry and ammunition, local press reported on Tuesday.
The particular ammunition was found at the house of Juan Remy Quignolot, a former French soldier that has lived in the capital Bangui for several years, according to local information platform Corbeaunews-Centrafrique.
Police reviews say Quignolot once skilled fighters of the former Seleka coalition. But now, he provides himself as a consultant reporter in Bangui, according to Eric Didier Tombo, the lawyer general of the Bangui Courtroom of Appeal,
“This is really a police operation. This is a guy who was followed by the police section, ” he said incorporating that the police had required prosecutors order that Quignolot’s home be search.
“From the police sources we have acquired, it seems that in 2013, he or she was one of the Seleka administrators, ” Tombo added.
Valery Zakharov, a security adviser in order to President Faustin-Archange Touadera, messaged: “A foreign citizen has been detained in Bangui nowadays [Monday] having a huge amount of arms plus ammunition. An investigation is underway and the circumstances need to be cleared up. ”
The Seleka coalition was an alliance associated with rebel militia groups that will seized power in the Main African Republic in 2013. After its official knell in September 2013, the rest of the rebel groups came to be called ex-Seleka.
Seleka leader Michel Djotodia became the nation’s president from March 2013 until his resignation within January 2014.
The Main African Republic plunged straight into conflict in 2012, with battling between the mostly Christian anti-Balaka militia and the mainly Muslim Seleka rebel coalition, getting killed thousands and leaving behind two out of three civilians dependent on humanitarian aid.
