Mother of Rastafarian student refused admission at Achimota College speaks

The storyplot of a Rastafarian student refused admission into Achimota College over his locks continues to be trending for days now.

Mom of the boy, Maanaa Meyers, has expressed her viewpoint about the whole situation.

The lady expressed her disappointment from the point of view that the school and its administration were not going to rescind their own decision to not allow the girl son to enrol due to his dreadlocks.

Mrs Meyers speaking to the media following a back and forth between Achimota College, GES, NAGRAT and other fascinated bodies, insisted that the college demanding that her child cuts his hair is just not right.

“I am very disappointed because there was simply no room for compromise. These were only insisting that we reduce the boy’s hair. I actually even asked if there is any kind of compromise where we can actually tie the hair a certain method where it will not look gross as people perceive it… and they said no, ” she said

Meanwhile, there were dissenting opinions regarding the scenario because the School over the years continues to be admitting Caucasian students with fairly longer and overgrown locks.

The school, backed by the Old Students Association plus NAGRAT, has made known the decision not to compromise around the need for the Rastafarian pupil to cut his hair in spite of an earlier intervention by the Ghana Education Service.
