Simply no e-levy no subsidized fertilizer for farmers – Doctor Afriyie Akoto

Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr . Owusu Afriyie Akoto has said that it is imperative that the 1 . 75% e-levy introduced by the Govt of Ghana in its 2022 budget is accepted plus implemented in order to help govt raise revenue. According to your pet, there will be no money to subsidize fertilizers if the much-debated e-levy from the 2022 budget is usually adopted by Parliament plus passed into law. He admits that the prices of fertilizer are usually high due to global lack but the government intends to carry on subsidizing fertilizers but with no adopting the e-levy, the federal government will struggle. Dr . Owusu Afriyie Akoto made this recognized when he met maqui berry farmers in the Upper East Area of Ghana as part of the visit of parts of the country. “Now with all the increase of prices in the global market, we have to look into the fertilizer situation again. You can find two markets in Ghana, the subsidized fertilizer marketplace which is the planting to get food and jobs which is intended for smallholder farmers and we possess the commercial for the open marketplace for people who can buy to go and purchase. These two markets have been around side by side. But because the backed market was so large, there was little left for your open market. Now using the price increases on the entire world market, we are also dealing with revenue collection in Ghana and everywhere else due to the fact International Trade has also shrunk. We get most of the revenues from International Industry, Import and export. This is why it has become necessary for this particular government to look for alternative causes of revenue to close the particular gap hence the digital levy. The opposition will be making the electronic garnishment a big issue. What they do not realize is that it’s influencing other areas. So if we are to get rid of the levy, where are usually we going to find the cash to give subsidies to the maqui berry farmers? There will be nothing. Now costs have gone up three times, ” he told farmers within the Upper East region. In the mean time, the opposition in Parliament has served notice that this won’t accept the E-Levy introduced by the Government associated with Ghana because it will bring lots of hardship to the people in the land. They have asked that the Federal government scraps it from the 2022 budget. Source: MyNewsGh. com/ 2021
