The senior lecturer at the University or college of Ghana Political Technology Department Prof. Ransford Gyampo has asked that press tyranny should be dealt with exactly the same way abuse of Media is treated in Ghana.
According to him, it’s essential that “we must not still hype the abuse associated with journalists over the infractions associated with journalists in a manner that only demonizes abusers and perpetuate press tyranny”.
To him, “We must deal with the sensation of media tyranny using the same energy we would cope with those who abuse journalists”.
This individual believes that as phone calls are on Security Capos to work alongside professionalism there is the need for Media in the country not to see them selves as tin gods.
“Security capos must be civil, gentle and law-abiding, in dealing with those who violate laws. Yet at the same time, no group of people may assert tin-god status on the rest of the populace. Even the Executuve President, clothed with all forces like a political king-kong, can not be a tin-god in a growing old democracy like Ghana. ”

1 . Media Freedom Should be respected in every democracy. Yet this is not licentious for Mass media Tyranny. The unintended outcomes of the liberalization of our airwaves and the proscription of laws and regulations that gagged the press, following the promulgation of the 1992 Constitution, has been the belief that media must be tin-gods, who should not be touched, regardless of what they do, and may arrogate to themselves the directly to do anything, including switching a man into a woman.
second . Sometimes, in their quest as the first to break the news, a few blatantly insult and intentionally run down reputations and even whenever their attention is attracted to their errors, some disregard and others may publish retractions with infinitesimal prominence.
a few. Some sensationalize issues that need sobriety, and publish pictures that offends customary methods, with impunity. Some intentionally give wrong headlines in order to stories just for the factors like selling their tabloids or even directing traffic to their websites. Some do these along with impunity and feel they can not and must not be touched simply by anyone, simply because they belong to your fourth Estate of the realm. This is exactly what I call Media Tyranny.
4. Democracy cannot flourish in a regime of Mass media Tyranny. Equality before the regulation is a distinguishing feature of each democracy and no group of people may assume superiority over other people. By all means, Journalists must do their own work but when they make a mistake, they must know they are not tin-gods. They must face legislation too, but in a municipal manner, devoid of high-handedness.
In the present alleged assault on a Citi FM journalists, a few questions should be dispassionately answered:
1 . Can there be truly a law in Ghana that forbids us through taking pictures at certain protection areas?
2 . Can this particular rule be violated with a journalist in the national attention?
3. The whole idea of Nationwide Interest is nebulous. Exactly who defines the national attention and whose interest may be the national interest? Is the nationwide interest the public interest? Who may be the public? Can national/public curiosity arbitrarily defined by anyone?
4. Can any Ghanaian enter the premises of any kind of state institution or house and begin to take pictures? May any Ghanaian go to the Jubilee House and begin to take images, just because the place is operate with our taxes?
5. Do the journalist violate any kind of law in what he do?
6. Was he really beaten when arrested and it is there any evidence in order to suggest so , beyond their own narration?
7. Is it legitimate to beat up any Ghanaian and for that matter, a good identifiable Journalist who may have apparently violated any law?
You will find two sides to the concern. First, the journalist apparently violating a law, the custom or a practice, plus second, the National Safety operatives allegedly beating your pet up, without resorting in order to due process of law. These types of must be independently investigated with no cover-up. The National Safety may do its own research but this should not bias any independent investigations to the matter.
Generally, (and this is not with specific reference to the particular alleged Caleb beating incident), we must not continue to buzz the abuse of media over the infractions of media in a manner that only demonizes abusers and perpetuate media tyranny. We must deal with the sensation of media tyranny with all the same energy we would cope with those who abuse journalists. Safety capos must be civil, gentle and law-abiding, in managing those who violate laws. Yet at the same time, no group of people may assert tin-god status on the rest of the populace. Even the Executuve President, clothed with all capabilities like a political king-kong, can not be a tin-god in a growing old democracy like Ghana.
