Government stops buying local chicken, imports Chinese mackerel in order to feed Free SHS learners – Report

Training Economist and Executive Movie director of Africa Education View, Kofi Asare has exposed that the Government’s decision in order to import mackerel from Tiongkok for the consumption of Senior High School (SHS) students has negatively afflicted the poultry industry which usually hitherto supplied eggs to Senior High Schools(SHSs). Based on Mr Asare, poultry maqui berry farmers had seen a growth in their business since the beginning of the Free SHS plan by the Akufo-Addo administration till Government engaged the services of a business to import and supply Chinese language mackerel to all SHSs. This particular development, he noted, provides cut the consumption of eggs during these schools by 70% making farmers, in the midst, from the COVID-19 pandemic, to reduce their production and place off workers. Meanwhile, the organization, Lamens Ventures has been providing the Chinese mackerel given that January 2021. Read unedited Mr Asare’s post: “We have been investigating why numerous Senior High Schools are certainly not buying eggs like earlier. We’ve spoken to huge scale egg producers within Kumasi, Ejura, Kwabre & SHS heads. According to all of them, before COVID-19, schools had been doing at least 3 ovum a week. This translated directly into 150, 000 crates/week (about 3. 6 million items of eggs). So Poultry Maqui berry farmers invested in more layers in order to sustain the demand through SHS, while it created tasks and income for many. Thanks a lot Nana Addo for creating tasks via free SHS. After that in January this year, a good order came from Accra that the certain company (Lamens Ventures), has been contracted by federal government (don’t forget the free SHS budget was held at the Presidency), to supply imported Chinese mackerel to all SHS in Ghana. Since this company started providing the China Mackerel, numerous schools started doing 1 egg a week. This decreased the demand for ovum by 70% and along with supply chain disruptions associated with COVID-19, it forced a lot of poultry farmers who experienced invested in Layers for college supplies shutting down plus laying off labour. The particular increase in the price of maize just nailed the coffin. Beloved Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, you are now producing unemployment after creating careers. ”
