GES orders Achimota school in order to admit the Rastafarian outstanding students

The Ghana Education Service has advised authorities at the Achimota College to admit the 2 very first year Rastafarian students.
This particular comes after a massive reaction upon social media following the senior higher school’s denial of two rastafarian students who obtained admission but were declined admission to enroll because they acquired dreadlocks.
An aggrieved mother or father of one of the students who had been denied admission took to social networking to register his dissatisfaction on the unfair treatment by the administration of the school.
“My child was one of the affected kids and the other student seemed to be refused on the same grounds. We now have no option but to fight against this gross human correct violation. As a child, he has each right to his culture as long as such culture does not infringement the 1992 Constitution.
“He equally deserves the right to gain access to education within his tradition just like other cultural believers.
“As a Rastafarian, I believe that dreadlocks do absolutely no way cause any harm that ought to even be a basis to become asserted by the school government bodies, ” The father wrote upon facebook.
Ever since his publish, there have been massive reaction through social media and many traditional mass media platforms questioning why the particular Achimota school will take this kind of unfair decision.
The Director-General of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku- Amankwah reacting towards the unfortunate development said the college cannot refuse to admit the 2 students.
“You cannot declare you you will not admit somebody on the basis of someone’s religious perception so we have asked your head to allow the children to be in school” He said.
